Dressing for a First Date: A Crash Course

First dates are full of things that you cannot control. The food may be wrong, the atmosphere may be loud, the weather might be messy, etc. What you can control is what you wear, and what you wear is deeply important on a first date. The first few seconds that your potential partner sees you could mean the difference between a connection and a missed opportunity. You should spend some time really putting together a strong first impression, and what you wear is a big part of that.

Be Your Best Self

It’s a simple piece of advice that is usually overlooked; be yourself. Always be yourself on dates whether it’s the first one or the last. If you’re the sort of girl who feels comfortable in a maxi dress and sandals, then you should wear that. If you’re the kind of girl who wouldn’t be caught dead in a skirt, then you shouldn’t wear a skirt on your date. It’s a plain and simple concept that will save you a lot of heartache down the line. However, this isn’t free license to stop caring and just do whatever. You need to not only be yourself, but your best self. Wear your best-fitting, most flattering outfit for your first date. Do your best make-up. Wear your snazziest shoes. Show your potential partner the best things about you.

Dress the part.

If you’re going to a nice restaurant for your first date, then you should dress nicely. On the other hand, if you’re going on a more casual date, then that little black dress might look really out of place. Dress for the occasion to create a seamless dating experience for yourself and for your potential mate.
